Great lengths

Well, it’s only day two, but so far I’m sticking to my new morning style shot ritual. I literally have someone snap a shot as I’m walking out the door in the morning, hence why there’s a door in the photos.

I got a new pleated maxi skirt in the mail a couple days ago — it’s from Forever 21′s Boutique collection which states right on the clothes tag that every piece “is designed in-house.” I thought this Boutique concept was new, but apparently it isn’t — I’ve found blog articles about it dating back to 2009, so I guess I’m just a bit oblivious.

Despite the fact that I love the look of the skirt, I’m less than impressed with the fit of the Boutique line. I ordered the skirt online which is always a risk, but I’ve gotten pretty good at guessing what the right size for me is, and am rarely wrong. The F21 online store said that the model (keep in mind how skinny their models are) pictured was wearing a size small. I usually go for the smalls, but being on the short side, I opted for an x-small because I didn’t want to be overwhelmed by the amount of material. But the x-small, I’d say, could easily fit a size large person. It wasn’t just a little loose; it was falling off of my hips. Luckily, I’m handy with a needle and thread, so I can tighten the band and continue wearing the skirt, but seriously, the most ill-fitting thing I’ve ever gotten. At least it was only $19.80.

I paired a fitted black blazer and racerback ribbed v-neck tank with an F21 Boutique pleated maxi skirt and F21 canvas espadrilles. I accessorized with a vintage leather belt, an assortment of silver rings and bracelets, Miu Miu sunglasses, and a thrifted leather satchel.

Vintage silver and jade ring, handmade "dragon scale/leaf" bracelet purchased at a craft fair, and a vintage hinged bangle.

Black stone cocktail ring and Native American Indian chief ring, both from F21. Essie nail polish in "turquoise and caicos."

Size was an issue, but it turned out alright in the end. But for someone who’s always found F21′s sizing to be reliable for my body type, I’m now going to be much more hesitant before making any purchase.
