Zef so Fre$h: T by Alexander Wang x Die Antwoord

Before I start this post, I’d just like to extend my gratitude to my dear @paulipocket for introducing me to the genius that is Die Antwoord roughly three years ago.

It was junior year. I was just about to die from the monotony of mundane, mainstream hits that get played on an endless and nauseating cycle across the Boston College campus (I once was lucky enough to hear B.O.B.’s “Airplanes” featuring Hayley Williams about twelve times in one night at the same party, no exaggeration), when Paulina suggested I check out this bizarre South African group.

Here’s the video for “Enter the Ninja” that got me hooked on their music, oh so long ago:

Love it?

Good.

And if you think the video is awesome, just wait until you get the chance to see them live. It’s been two summers since I’ve seen them, but I’m praying there are still tickets left to their Chicago show this month because I NEED to see them again. I still remember their last one I was at like it was yesterday. The venue was in a small, dark, sketchy bar in the center of hipsterville Chi, there was a bounty of PBR tall boys, and SO many violent metal-heads that captured myself and Paulina in a swirling mosh pit of beer and sweat that lifted us off our feet. Literally. We barely escaped with our limbs and lives; I actually had to remove my earrings because I was afraid my ear would get ripped off.

Any injuries we might have sustained were made all better by the fact that we managed to stop Die Antwoord’s taxi cab after the show and actually speak to them in person.

Some photos from the night:

Yesterday, Die Antwoord came out with their first video off of their album TEN$ION for “I Fink U Freaky.” In typical zef fashion, the video is slightly disturbing, slightly humorous, and way cool. Underwear, graphic sweat suits, close-up shots of gold teeth, and Yo-Landi Vi$$er in a bath tub, as usual, are all present.

And as if the prospect of going to another concert of theirs and watching their new video aren’t enough excitement for my week, THIS news came out today, which is the cherry on top of a very delicious and elaborately iced cake.

T by Alexander Wang‘s newest campaign video features Die Antwoord and a clip of another amazing single off of TEN$SION entitled “Fatty Boom Boom.” The sportish simplicity of Alexander Wang‘s designs meshes perfectly with the aggressive energy of Die Antwoord’s music, and once again proves the young designer stays ahead of the fashion crowd.

I’m all tingly down to my toes, that’s how happy about this I am. Ready to whip out my credit card and make some purchases STAT.

xoxo,
Lesley
