Helmut Lang’s tribute to Game of Thrones
My obsession with collecting ankle boots and nail polish is only rivaled by my love of fantasy fiction. Is it really any wonder why fashion that crosses the line between reality and imagination is what inspires me the most?
The ever-growing collection of leather pants and black clothing in my closet clearly stems from all the Buffy and Charmed I’ve watched over the years. Chainmail and tiaras? Obviously from King Arthur. Silks, velvets, rich fabrics, and loose shapes? No better style icon then Arwen Undomiel.
Of course, this season, Helmut Lang’s collection ranks amongst my favorites — creative directors of the brand Michael and Nicole Colovos have admitted to using the fantasy series Game of Thrones as inspiration for their latest line. Much to my delight, “Hodor couture” as the LA Times has lovingly dubbed it, contains all the elements for any 21st century fashionista to blend in with the Dothraki.
Leather, leggings, boots, fur, and wool cloaks channel Medieval culture with a modern twist.
The premiere of season two airs April 1. CAN’T WAITTTT.
