Alexander Wang SS 2013

Alex Wang, yet again, has created a collection that embodies everything a girl wants. Simple silhouettes and a muted color scheme of neutrals — Crisp white shirts, severe collars, avant garde but wearable sandals and boots, over-sized yet flattering cuts, and leather dresses so sultry it makes me wonder whether he did any sewing at all, or maybe just glued the pieces right on the models.

Though the fabrics he used were basic, he re-worked them in such a way to make them more complex. Cut outs and clear panels were the most obvious, but it was in fact that subtle overlaying of plain white fabric that lent a simple button down a aspect of intrigue, and the weaving and twisting of knitted sweaters contrasted against snakeskin pencil skirts that stole the show.

As for the makeup — any girl, whether ultra sporty or feminine, would want to replicate it. Everything was kept minimal, with a focus on strong brows and a decorative leather strip extending down to the forehead from the middle hair part.
